THE TALENT // ROMAN UDALOV

Meet Roman Udalov, the latest addition to THE TALENT, our series about the creatives who make Los Angeles what it is.

Roman is a photographer who collaborated with our founder on a series hand-silk screened tees when HIRO CLARK was still just a dream.

Read on to find out Roman’s favorite movie about our hometown, what you’ll find him doing at sunrise, and which celeb’s roof he jumped off when he first got to Los Angeles (don’t worry, he landed in the pool).

Do you have a favorite L.A. story?

Jumping off the roof of Drew Barrymore’s house into her pool during a party when I first got to LA. I thought I had officially “made it”, and my life would be filled with fun celebrity parties. I was never invited back.

What’s your favorite movie about L.A.?

Night of the Comet (1984). It’s so bad, it’s a classic. Their trajectory through LA makes no sense. They’re on Melrose, then they make a left turn and they’re in Downtown, then two minutes later they’re in the Valley.

What's your favorite L.A. soundtrack?

This question can have a thousand answers, but Beck’s Sea Change album came at a very pivotal place in my life, so I can always count on that album to help me feel some feelings it just feels warm and cozy, like the perfect late afternoon in LA, or a gloomy grey spring morning when all the jacarandas are blooming.

Where do you disappear to when it’s time to skip town?

Lately I’ve been more drawn to visit places I haven’t been before, but if I need a quick getaway, Joshua Tree is always calling me. .

Who’s your biggest L.A. icon?

The Hailey Bieber smoothie.

What’s your fave Hiro Clark go-to?

For about 10,000 years it was my “Wrong Place Wrong Time” shirt. I’ve been photographed in that shirt out on the town more than any other article of clothing. I actually had to retire it for a while.

Beach, mountains, or desert?

All three, and I love that Southern California provides them all.

It’s sunrise: are you more likely to be getting up early or finally going to bed?

If I’m ever waking up to see the sunrise, someone has a gun to my head. That, or I have a ridiculously early call time.

Who was your first Hollywood crush?

The “Hollywood type” never appealed to me, but if i ever had a chance to be on set with Zach Galifianakis I’d probably fan boy out for a bit before we got to work.
